Weekend brunch at Ruth McGowan's Brewpub in downtown Cloverdale is a relaxing, satisfying, filling and tasty retreat. What more could you ask for? Don't let the pub venue keep you away. This is a gem of a breakfast spot for down-home cooking at a fair value. With almost an anti-wine-country atmosphere (large, gleaming copper vats of brewing beer watch over the room), you may choose from a number of brunch items then sit back to enjoy the Sunday paper before your repast. There are no-fuss but friendly furnishings and black and white photos of yesteryear Cloverdale on the wall mixed in with Irish blessings.

The portions at Ruth McGowan's are quite ample though there is an option for lighter eaters who don't want to go over the top.

Eggs done just the way you want them and multiple curls of delicious bacon are dished up with gusto.

McGowan's also offers a wedge of delight called Rosti potatoes (hashed browns cooked in a cast-iron skillet) .

These potatoes are perfectly crisp on the outside and yummy warm on the inside. They do the Irish proud.

It's rare to go to a breakfast place and have everything come out just right but this local Irish pub really knows how to light up the burners.

Belgian waffles and Mexican-themed dishes are also available if you're in the traveling mood.

Our server, Martha, kept careful watch of our coffee cups and knew just when to swing by with a refill. She was also one of the friendliest people we've met in all of Sonoma county and was quite helpful with tips on the area.

We highly recommend Ruth McGowan's Brewpub and try to keep in mind the old Irish saying, don't bruise your knee on a barstool that's not in your way.
